At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One pamphlet entitled, "Meanwhile back at the Branch" dated June 1965 printed by the NAACP. This publication was printed with the purpose of detailing the work that was being done at the offices of NAACP branches during the March from Selma to Montgomery in 1965. Contains summaries of efforts related to voter registration; testing public accomodations to end discriminatory practices; school desegregation campaigns; increasing employment; and leading protests and investigations against police brutality.
