Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One poster entitled, "I'm building the ships we need to win!" dated 1942-1945. Poster features a ship builder showing off a "Ships for Victory" badge that is pinned to his overalls. Behind him is a ship in a shipyard being built. The poster reads, "The Enemy Hasn't Quit... Don't You!" The title of the poster is on the back in pencil.
