At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One Wire photograph taken by Jack Davies released by International News Photos dated November 12, 1952. Shows a woman wearing a kerchief on her head. The kerchief has a picture of Queen Elizabeth II and a plaque that reads, "The Coronation of Elizabeth II 2nd June 1953." The attached press release explains that the kerchief has been approved by the Coronation Souvenir Committee of the Council of Industrial Design. The photo is stamped on the back with the date and International News Photo information.
