At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One wirephoto released by United Press International, dated October 20, 1958. Shows President Eisenhower shaking hands in the back of a car. According to the embedded press release Eisenhower visited Los Angeles at the start of a two day campaign trip on behalf of Californian Republicans. In the front seat of the car is Governor Godwin Knight, next to Eisenhower is Senator William Knowland. The back is stamped with United Press International information.
