At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One program from the inauguration ceremony of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, dated January 20, 2001. The back of page one lists the members of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. Program lists official proceedings of the ceremony, including the invocation, musical selection, administration of the Vice Presidential and Presidential Oaths of Office, and the Inaugural Address. The back of the second page describes a brief history of inauguration ceremonies. Front page of the document is embossed with the Presidential Seal. Program is stapled but is also tied with a decorative gold ribbon.
