At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Collection of photographs dated 1964-1965 taken by Associated Press and United Press International. Pertain to protests, which took place in Washington, D.C., Rochester, N.Y., and Selma, Alabama. The purpose of these protests ranged from civil rights legislations to imprisonment of Black Panther Party members.
