On the reverse side is a newspaper clipping pasted with a caption. The caption identifies Thomas taking his oath before Joseph Biden. The text reads, "Thomas promised to remember the values of his heritage as a poor black from the South if he is confirmed by the Senate."
At the time Biden was serving as the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman.
