One issue of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat dated October 7, 1875. Newspaper contains articles concerning current event, and advertisements. On the first page of the newspaper is an article concerning a disagreement between Senator Alcorn and a Sherriff Brown who the article claims was being directed by Adelbert Ames. According to the article harsh words were said by each and threats were made. Senator Alcorn has asked for militia while Sherriff Brown has fellow African Americans defending him. There were skirmishes between the two groups at Friar's Point that left at least five dead and some wounded. Also on the first page is; an article concerning a Fire Fighter convention in New York City, the murder of George Sisney, Sick horses in Cincinnati, and a court case concerning Ku Klux Klan members attacking African American people. On the second page of particular note is an article that describes the Supreme Court ruling for Minor vs. Happersett which states that the 14th amendment does not apply to women. The opinion, written by Chief Justice Waite, is printed in full. He argues that while women are citizens, citizenry does not guarantee the right to suffrage under the law. The third page is concerning an event called the Fifteenth fair, listing the events and awards given to participants. The fourth page continues the news of the fair including a section on the illumination of two main streets at night. It also contains articled on a fire on Main Street that was prevented, and articles on recent crime. The fifth page contains mostly advertisements with an article on the accidental death of an elevator boy named Edward Drilling. The sixth, seventh and eighth pages contain advertisements and financial listings.
