Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One campaign button entitled, "Nixon Now" dated 1972. This pin was sponsored by Paul Barrick, treasurer for the Committee to Re-Elect the President during the 1972 presidential election. Manufactured by CoadCo. The button has purple and red text on a white background with a red and purple outer edge.

The 1972 United States presidential election was the 47th election to take place between Richard Nixon and Democratic Party candidate George McGovern. C.R.E.E.P. (Committee for the Re-Election of the President) was later found guilty of illegal acitivites to re-elect Nixon such as money laundering and link to the Watergate scandal.

Nixon and Agnew were elected as running mates for the Republican Party. Once Nixon resigned, Agnew followed with his own resignation to avoid tax evasion.
