At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One poster entitled, "This Is Your War!" Text pertains to subscribing to Liberty loans as a way to aid a win during World War I. Illustration consists of a female looking at the word "Prussianism" written over the shadow of a Prussian soldier. The mother, fahter and baby look towards the shadow and a small boy looks towards the viewer. Signed by the illustrator, Frank Godwin.

Frank Godwin (1889-1959) was an American cartoon artist noted for his comic strip "Connie" and illustrated versions of books.
