Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One poster entitled, "The Child at Your Door." Refers to a campaign to raise $30 million for 400,000 orphans from Armenia, Greece, Syria and Persia organized by the American Committee Relief in the Near East. Illustration on poster consists of a pencil drawing of a young child with her hair covered staring at the viewer.

Near East Foundation, formerly American Committee Relief in the Near East, was founded following the removal of Armenians from parts of the Ottoman Empire during World War I.
