Farewell To Waterbury.

Farewell ye dear familiar scenes
which I from childhood knew:
Sweet friends of childhood and of youth
I bid you all adieu:
New friends,-new faces,-and new scenes
will meet me where I rove
And I may learn as time rolls on
my western home to love.

He whom I gave my heart and hand
years since;-a happy bride;
Waits anxiously to see me take
my old place by his side.
And I too;-long again to be
clasped fondly to his breast,-
Again on his protecting arm
confidingly to rest.

They say the land to which I go
is enchantingly fair:-
That o'er the praries [sic] wide and green
are strewn wild-flowers rare:
But oh the friends I leave behind,
I never can forget,

[2]
And I shall oft recall these scenes
with feelings oft regret.

And should affliction on me fall
or sickness lay me low,
Who will so fondly watch o'er me,
or such comfort bestow?
Then I shall miss my own dear Church
and Pastor kind and true;
Yet all-I know will pray for me;-
pastor-friends-home adieu.
Written expressly for
Mrs. E J Scott.
By Aunt Mercia.
