One map illustrated by Karl Smith and published by Linweave Quality Papers, and Chicago Paper Company in 1959. The map features the United States as it was from 1867-1960. It includes the borders of the United States in 1960. Shaded in green are the lower forty-eight state. In the Gulf of Mexico are insets of Hawaii, Midway Island, Wake Island, Guam, The Philippines, Samoa Islands, Puerto Rico, The Virgin Islands, The Panama Canal and Alaska. If a state entered the union during the date range of the map the year is listed under the name of the state. The ocean of the map features illustrations of labeled period ships, and naval battles as well as planes, helicopters and a rocket launching by Cape Canaveral. Within the map are illustrations of people, events, and animals. In the area of Canada there is the American flag with fifty stars. There are also illustrations of North Pole exploration and a list of American firsts from 1869-1937. In the lower right corner is an illustration of a sailor and an army soldier. There is also a listing of important dates from 1845-1953. Scattered throughout the map is illustrations of events that took place between 1867-1960, including the first transcontinental helicopter flight in 1954 and the San Francisco earthquake and fire in 1906.
