Collection of two posters related to the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. The different marches took place on 1979 and 1987 respectively.

The National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights in 1979 was organized and attended by up to 100,000 gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender people, and straight allies marching for equal civil rights. Planning for the event had started since 1973, and was momentarily put off after Harvey Milk's assassination in 1978. Milk was able to gain the support of various DC groups. It was decided that the march would take place in 1979 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.

The Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights took place in 1987 propelled by rising AIDS pandemic and the ruling of Bowers v. Hardwick (see GLC09868 ). About 200,000 people attended this march.
