2018 Library Affiliate Program Grants Announced

Nathan Richardson will portray Frederick Douglass during an impressionistic lecture at Genesee Community College.The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History is pleased to announce another successful round of the Library Affiliate Program Grant. Gilder Lehrman Library Affiliates across the country applied for a $400 grant to host one K–12 history program. Five sites were awarded grants this round:   

Alfred C. O’Connell Library at Genesee Community College in Batavia, NY, is planning a series of programs to supplement their hosting of the Gilder Lehrman Frederick Douglass traveling exhibition.

Burnsville Public Library in Burnsville, WV, will partner with the West Virginia Humanities Council to host two History Alive! costumed interpreter programs—one at the local elementary school, and one at the library.

Geneseo Public Library in Geneseo, IL, is planning to host a historical interpreter who will portray Clara Barton, the nurse who founded the American Red Cross.

McBride Memorial Library in Berwick, PA, is planning an essay contest for high school students. Students in grades 9–12 will research and submit a paper on a local event or trend and its impact on national history.

Southworth Library in Dryden, NY, is planning an after-school historical fiction book club for children in grades 2–6.

The Gilder Lehrman Library Affiliate Program is a free program for public libraries and academic libraries at colleges and universities. One part of the program is the twice-yearly Library Affiliate Program Grant. Applications for the next round of the grant will open on February 15, 2019.
