History U Offers Free Advanced American History Courses for High School Students

The Gilder Lehrman Institute now offers free, graduate-level American history courses for high school students with History U.

The History U program lets high school students explore American history with top scholars, via modified versions of our MA in American History courses.

Our first three History U courses are

• American Immigration History: People, Patterns, and Policy led by Madeline Hsu (University of Texas at Austin)
• Black Women’s History led by Kellie Carter Jackson (Wellesley College)
• Foundations of American Government led by Denver Brunsman (George Washington University)

Each History U course includes

• Video lectures by an acclaimed historian
• Primary sources and in-depth readings
• Short quizzes to review knowledge
• A certificate of completion for the course

Taking a History U course can enhance college applications, supplement classroom learning, and allow students to explore their own love of history.
