May 11 - Virtual PD: Veterans Legacy Program with Black Hills National Cemetery

Black Hills National Cemetery - National Cemetery Administration

In partnership with the National Cemetery Administration’s Veterans Legacy Program, we are pleased to offer free professional development sessions in spring 2024 focusing on different aspects of American Veterans’ and Service Members’ lives on and off the battlefield and how to effectively bring that content back to the classroom. As a part of this series, we are now offering a virtual workshop:

May 11, 2024, 5:00 p.m.–7:30 p.m. ET
World War II Portraits of Service: Native American Code Talkers

  • Scholar: Prof. Tom Holm (University or Arizona)
  • Master Teacher: Alona Whitebird
  • Virtual Tour Site: Black Hills National Cemetery
  • Stipend for Participants: $50.00

Professor Holm’s lecture will focus on the experiences of Native American Code Talkers. The pedagogy portion of the workshop provides an opportunity to use primary source analysis to understand the myriad reasons Veterans served in World War II. As a part of the workshop, participants will get a virtual tour of Black Hills National Cemetery in South Dakota.

Participants will receive a certificate for 2.5 hours of professional development. To receive the $50.00 stipend, participants must be present for the entire workshop.
