Mentions a past event involving Senator Henry Moore Teller in which Porter had been banned from residing in the Colorado Territory by an individual who hoped to please Secretary of War Stanton and [John] Pope; both men were enemies of Porter. At the time, Teller was indifferent. Mentions the health of President James A. Garfield, who was shot on 2 July. Ends with "This is private."
Garfield died 19 September 1881.
