At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The Sachems state that they have heard news of British plans to cut off the 5 Nations, and explain that they are inclined to believe this rumor due to the rapidly rising price of powder. Governor Hunter replies that the rumors are spread by their mutual enemies, and he will try to lower the price of powder.
