Sends a draft of $100 and instructs Nichols to pay his life insurance policy with it. Informs that Lillie has a cold that is affecting her eyes so she cannot write. Everyone else is in good health. Thanks him for shipping some items. Comments on the election in South Carolina and states that 70,000 votes have been cast for the Republican ticket which ensures the state for the party. On stationery printed "Headquarters Second Military District, Provost Marshal General's Office."
