Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Document contains two copied letters. Both were written in Chelsea, London.
The first letter, on page 1, was from Mauger to John Butler, dated 3 February 1763, and was written in Halifax.
The second letter, which spanned from page 2 to page 4, was from Mauger toan unknown recipient, dated 14 March 1763, and was written in London.
