News of Chapman's appointment under Brown Allen; finding Lee's letter book over the Gettysburg Campaign.

Dec. 23d.1905
Capt: Sam Chapman:
Dear Sam.
I have just seen L. L. Lewis who told me that he had a letter from Sam Yost saying that you had got an appointment under Brown Allen. It is unnecessary for me to tell you how delighted I am. Joe Bryan is sitting by me - he sends his love & congratulations - I have at last found what I have been looking for for 10 years. It is Gen. Lee's letter book on the Gettysburg campaign -- Good ole McCabe has it - It confirms all that I have written in defense of Stuart & reputes the calumnies against him - I will explain all when I see you -
Yours Truly
Jno: S. Mosby

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
