Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Harrison writes a lengthy discussion of his Christian faith and experiences. He draws heavily on references to passages in the Bible. The end of the letter discusses the Korean War and the reorganization of the Far East Command. Harrison would eventually lead the peace talks for the U.N. in 1953.
