Kevin Cline

Kevin M. Cline is the department chair for social studies and teaches Dual Credit US Government, Dual Credit US History, and US History at Frankton High School in Frankton, Indiana. He graduated with a BA and MA in education from Ball State University. He currently serves as a master teacher for the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, as a member of the History Education Advisory Council for “America250” and the US Semiquincentennial Commission, on the Board of Advisors for the National History Club, as a member of the Teachers Advisory Group for the National Council for History Education and National Constitution Center, as a member of the iCivics Educators Network, and as a board liaison for the Indiana Council for the Social Studies. He has spoken at numerous educational conferences around the country, and often teaches summer classes for the History School program for the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. He has also served as a content consultant for two educational apps, “Freedom Summer” and “Engaging Congress,” created in conjunction with the Center on Representative Government at Indiana University-Bloomington. He was named the National History Teacher of the Year in 2016 by the Gilder Lehrman Institute for American History and the Indiana History Teacher of the Year by the Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution in 2025, was a recipient of the American Civic Education Teaching Award in 2012, and has, on three occasions, been named Advisor of the Year by the National History Club, in 2014, 2019, and 2023.

Kevin is a strong believer in the presentation of history as a storyteller, dynamic use of primary sources, encouraging active citizenship, and the belief that history is something that cannot just be studied in a classroom setting. He is proud to sponsor his school’s History Club, which has been honored three times as one of the top chapters in the nation. This student group has led several efforts to take the study of history outside the classroom, most recently in the installation of a historical marker to honor a local World War I veteran who gave her life as a Red Cross nurse. Above all, Kevin is blessed to share life with his wife and two sons.
