Teacher Symposium Special Events

In addition to robust course offerings, the Gilder Lehrman Teacher Symposium will feature special events each evening that will allow participants to network, learn, and most importantly, have fun! These events are included with each registration.

Special Event Description

Saturday, July 9: Opening remarks by Manisha Sinha and a discussion of her book The Slave’s Cause: A History of Abolition

To kick off the Gilder Lehrman Teacher Symposium, Professor Manisha Sinha will join us for an interview-style discussion of her book The Slave’s Cause: A History of Abolition. Participants will be invited to ask Professor Sinha questions to lead this discussion. Light refreshments with be provided.

Sunday, July 10: Special Lecture on Abolition and Reconstruction by Manisha Sinha Join Manisha Sinha for a special lecture on Abolition and Reconstruction. This lecture will start the day's activities, and not conflict with any of the other courses. 

Sunday, July 10: American History Trivia Night

Put your knowledge of American history to the test during Trivia Night! Team up and compete for prizes as you use the knowledge gained from your first day of the Symposium. Trivia Night will be curated and run by former Jeopardy! contestant and Gilder Lehrman staff member Daniel Pecoraro.

Monday, July 11: Visit the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center

Symposium participants will take a short ride down to the Gettysburg Battlefield, where we will have an after-hours visit to the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. Participants will be given private access to the museum, with special access to the cyclorama and film. 

Sunday, July, Monday, July 11, and Tuesday, July 12: Scholar Book Talks

Throughout the symposium, each scholar will lead a discussion on one of their books. This is a great opportunity to learn from as many of our incredible scholars as possible.
