Summary of Content: Discusses British General John Burgoyne's surrender at Saratoga and meetings with Generals Oliver Wolcott and Israel Putnam, and with Members of the Continental Congress Francis Dana, John Hancock, John Adams, and Samuel Adams. Includes allusions to Cervantes' "Don Quixote" and Laurence Sterne's "The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman."

Background Information: This is the second of five travel journals Ellery kept from 1776 to 1780. Ellery was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and was a member of the Continental Congress from ...Rhode Island from 1776 until 1785.See More
