Report of the Committee of Detail, the first draft of the Constitution, signed by Pierce Butler with his annotations. This draft starts with naming each state, "We the People of the States of New-Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode-Island...." Throughout the document, notes have been written in the left-hand margin; some of the words are written in a different hand. The item is dated at top "May [th]e 30th 1787" Printed by Dunlap and Claypoole. The leaves are printed recto only, and are uncut and unbound.
