Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed by H.L. Scott. Partial docket reads "[General] Order, No. 371, [Proce]edings of a [Milit]ary Commission." Proceedings of four trials before a military commission on charges of riotous conduct and attempted murder. Two of the defendants are Mexican civilians and one is an American teamster. Major Bainbridge presiding.
