Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Partially printed document grants a parcel of land called "Stephen's Green," in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania to Wilhem Willink, Nicholaas Van Staphorft, Hendrick Vollenhove, Rutger Jan Schimmelpennicnck, Chriftiaan Van Eeghen, and Pieter Stadnifki. McKean signed as governor of Pennsylvania. Endorsed on verso by T. Matlock W. R. with seal of office.

McKean was a delegate to the Continental Congress 1774-1776, 1778-1782 and a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
