Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Somewhat illegible. Relates to the privateer ship the Pilgrim. Year is illegible but possibly 1817. Hill was the captain of the Pilgrim. Part of a collection of receipts from the Lovett family. John Lovett was a privateer ship merchant and captain in Beverly, Massachusetts. He served as the agent for the Pilgrim's prizes.
