Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Counter-signed by Richard Cox. Appointment of Hartcup to be a Gentleman Cadet in the Royal-Regiment of Artillery under John Durand. Noted by Dan Kemp that this was entered into the Office of Ordnance 6 July 1761. Ligonier was the Colonel of the First Regiment of Footguards and Master-General of Ordnance.
