12 December 1862, Strasburg
My dear Sister,
I take this opportunity of writing to you in hopes that this letter may come to you without any delay. I am in Capt. Bonds company of 3nd Cavalry that is Farworth Bond. I joined the army on the last part of May and have been in several battles since that time and in 3rd, but not nearer enough to see you all. I am enjoying excellent health and like the army may well & knowingly that I am fighting in the right cause. I have not heard definitely from any of you for more than a year. I wish you would send me some clothes if you have an opportunity and try & let me hear from you if you possibly can, it seems like an age. I suppose you heard from me through the Mrs. Cary's, perhaps they can get a letter over to me. I like the service very much indeed, our old Capt. Was promoted to Major whom we all loved very much, but we cannot bear Frank Bond. If you write to me direct to me in care Capt. Bond Co. A. 1st Md Cavalry. Give much love to Father, Mother, Uncle G. & Aunt Dottie also to Uncle John & do try your best to let me hear from you. Also five love to Aunt Sibby and tell her that I will soon be home under the will of God. I have not time to say any more and I cannot trust on paper what I wish to saw. Love to all & believe me as ever your affect. Brother
