Writes "Tom Hendon of our company was captured.... I lost a splendid little horse when I was captured."
My dear Mother,
I received Belles letter yesterday, & answered it immediately. I do not want you to put yourself to any inconvenience to send me a jacket & the things as I am in no particular hurry but any time when it is convenient to you. I saw an account in the paper where Tom Hendon of our company was captured. The weather has been quite pleasant for the past week a good breeze. Did Uncle A & G get their letters. Is Father's riding horse Belle living yet. I lost a splendid little horse when I was captured which I have had for over two years, which greaved [sic] me very much as I do not know where I will get another. Best love to Father, Uncle G. & all the rest.
As ever your affect. Son,
Edward.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
