Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Possibly written at Claverack, New York. Stores were shipped aboard the Nancy under the care of Captain Beckham. Also contains an "Invoice of sundry stores deliverd Lieut Wm Price by order of General Knox for the use of the Laboratory" at New Windsor. Seward signs as captain. Docketed by Samuel Shaw, Knox's aide.
