Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 70,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World to soldiers’ letters from World War II and Vietnam. Order asking for the issue of provisions for 2 days for 1 corporal and 8 men belonging to Commandant(?) Baige. A total of 18 rations were issued from 9 March to 11 March. Has several signatures approving the rations, Jonathan Lillie an aide-de-camp, a Mr. Forsythe, and Major Shaw as Knox's aide-de-camp. Docket on verso is signed by a W. Woodstock.
