Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Return of rations issued to a prisoner from 27 March to 30 March. The prisoner appears to have been with the 1st Connecticut Regiment and was given a total of four rations. Countersigned by John Lillie and Sergeant James Bradley, stating that contractors delivered the rations.
