Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Asks Shaw to help him to apply to General Henry Knox to aid him with his debts that he incurred while still in the service and that he would have paid if he had received the half-pay due to soldiers who leave the army. "Free" stamped on address leaf with no signature.
