Written and signed for General Knox in a secretarial hand. Certifies that Major Samuel Shaw, Knox's aide-de-camp, is authorized to borrow one thousand Spanish milled dollars (also known as Spanish dollars) on behalf of General Knox and his wife. The loan is to be repaid by General Knox in twelve or eighteen months with interest.
