Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

A provision return for a prisoner of the Corps of Sappers and Miners. The prisoner is issued one ration for one day. Signed by Captain [Nathan] Dix and John Doughty, Fort Major at West Point. The docket acknowledges receipt of the contractors for New York and New Jersey and is signed by Joseph Libbery.
