Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Asks for information about the treatment of prisoners at a hospital "at flat bush on Long Island." Has heard that Holmes was a prisoner of the British army and while held as a prisoner worked under Dr. Bayley. Wonders about Dr. Bayley's treatment of the wounded. Noted as a copy.
