References Knox's letter of 30 March. Is "rejoiced to hear that you are in such a promising way." Arrived at Hingham Academy last Tuesday morning . Attended the exhibition of the children, the afternoon sermon, and the bell in the evening. Was very pleased with the day. Says at the school are 30 boys and 50 girls. Reports the boys spoke on various subjects and the girls exhibited needle work. Reports that Henry Jackson Knox appeared on stage twice and handled himself well. Says he has improved in his speaking, which was done with propriety and confidence. Has brought the boy to Boston, where he will stay for the length of his vacation. Reports that Sarah Lyons Flucker is doing well and lives with a charming family. She is happy because her children are getting such a good education at a reasonable price. Lodged with her for an evening and was treated well. Has written to Mr. Bridge, the sheriff of Lincoln County in the District of Maine, to stop the sale of land in the Waldo Patent to pay taxes as Knox will be in Boston by 1 June to handle the situation (for Bridge answer to this letter see GLC02437.05870). Refers him to a letter he wrote to William Bingham about their land concern. Pages are almost separated at the seam.
