Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Deed indicating that the heirs of Brigadier Samuel Waldo purchased a particular tract of land from Samuel Denny. Signed by Denny as well as John and Elizabeth Stinson as witnesses. Page 2 has three notes about the land purchase, and is signed by John Stinson, Moses Gill, and Thomas Flucker.
