Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Marked as a copy. Clothing came from Fort Washington by order of General Henry Knox. Lists the recipient of clothing, and by whose order it was delivered. Includes several administrative notes at the bottom of the page, with the signature (or a copy) of Ruddock, Deputy Commissary of stores at Fishkill.
