Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Program for a fireworks display, showing the order in which the different fireworks will be set off and prohibiting other illumination in the city on the night of the exhibition unless specially authorized. In the title, the word "first" has been struck from the exhibition date, and "2d" written in its place, possibly in Henry Knox's hand. Printed at the state printing office by John Holt.
