Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Also signed by Jacob Willard [Secrty]. Appears to be an official document regarding raising troops in the colonies of Massachusetts Bay, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The troops are to be employed in an expedition for the "Reduction of Canada" commanded by [Arthur] St. Clair. Further details and instructions about the expedition are provided.
