Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Knox's signature has been heavily redacted. Partially printed document with subsequent information written in by hand. Discusses a deed of mortgage between Henry Knox and Edmund Winchester where Winchester now has claims to a tract of land from Knox. Authorized and signed by Samuel Cooper, countersigned by [J. le Febery] and noted as received at the register's office by Thomas Price on 4 March 1799.
