Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Partially printed deed confirming that Ebenezer Barnard sold a piece of land in Hartland, Connecticut to Asael and Alexander McKee for four hundred pounds. Also signed twice by Jonathan Bull, as witness and Justice of the Peace, and by Henry Bull as witness.

Ebenezer Barnard served as a captain during the American Revolution.
