Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

P.1 contains a statement signed by the Mayor Hendrick Hanlin, and the Aldermen Johannes Cuyler and Johannes Bleecker. The statement acknolwedges that Livingston's account, which appears on the following pages, has been audited and approved; and it determines legal fees and a further sum of money due to Livingston. The account on pages 2 and 3 calculates the debts and credits of the Mayor and Aldermen of Albany with regard to Livingston from 1695-1699.
