Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

In their proposition, the Onondagas state their desire to remain at peace, and ask that the colonists do the same. P.2 contains a proposition from the Senecas, in which they agree not to go to war, and ask to renew their covenant with Albany, and with Maryland and Virginia.
