Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Comments that he is doing well other than a bad cold that he caught on the boat. Describes being at the old dismounted camp where the regimental property is. Reports that Company B is about six miles away on picket duty and that he will be out as soon as he can. Mentions that he is taking care of lame horses. Sends his best to everyone back home.
